My Story - How I Got Started in Communicating with Spirits - Part 1
I got started in communicating with spirits and ghosts about 15 years ago. Really my start happened quite by accident. When I moved into an area near Gage Park in Hamilton, I met a neighbour named Alex. He was quite a bit older than me being in his late 70's. We found that we had a lot in common and became friends very quickly. I would go over to his place about once a week to visit and chat.
Alex told me that he was a psychic. While a few years before I had gone on some ghost investigations, I had never met anyone who called them a “psychic”. He told me that he was the “reluctant psychic”, who had been given various psychic abilities that he needed to pay attention to or bad things happened. He said it all started out with premonitions. Premonitions of messages like “if you have anything valuable in the trunk of your car, you need to remove it now or lose it”, only to find the following morning that his parked car had been hit from behind by a car and the trunk demolished. There were many, more serious premonitions, like the vision of person who was trapped below water and was not able to get free. This specific vision lead Alex to jumping into the nearby lake, beside the dock and discovering his cousin trapped below the water line and almost drowning. If he had not jumped in the lake and saved him, he would have drowned.
Alex told me that his abilities later developed into hearing spirits talking into his ear and into automatic writing. Automatic writing is where the spirits of the deceased take control of a person’s hand with a pen and begin to write a message to this person on the paper in front of them in the spirits hand writing. Alex told me that it was mainly his parents, who would speak to him through automatic writing.
While I enjoyed his many stories, it had not entered my mind that I could gain some psychic abilities. One night during a visit, Alex told me to do something for him. He told me that when I went home, I needed to do several things. He said to first place a blank piece of paper on the table in front of me. Next to draw a line from my side of the table to the opposite side of the table on the paper. Next he told me to put an arrow on each end of the line and to write the word “Yes” by that line. Next, he told me to find the mid point of that line and to draw a line crossing the line at 90 degrees, running to the left edge and right edge of the paper. Next I was to put arrows on the ends of this line and write the work “No” beside the line.

Next, I was to take a ring that I had worn often (that contained my energy) and run a piece of thread through the ring. Then I was to tie the thread in a knot forming a circle, with the thread running through the ring. The thread was to be about 8” long. Next I was to hold the thread between my thumb and forefinger of my right hand and suspend the ring over the place where the lines crossed. Alex told me that next, I was to ask questions, that I knew the answer to that had answers of “yes” or “no”.
While I did not know why he wanted me to do this, I decided to do as he asked me to. To my amazement, I saw the ring swing back and forth, along the “Yes” line if the answer was “yes” and along the “No” line if the answer was “no”. I witnessed 100% of the questions being answered with the swing of the ring along the line corresponding to the correct answer. I immediately phoned up Alex and asked him “what was going on”, for 100% of my questions were answered correctly. He told me he was not going to tell me and that in time I would understand. He also told me that eventually I would not need this device.
After this experience, I did some reading and found out that my ring on a thread was in reality a “pendulum”. Alex would not tell me what was going on, so I continued to experiment with my “ring on a thread” pendulum and ask more questions.
In Part 2, I will tell you more of my story that includes the type of surprise answers I got from my pendulum.
