What a Typical Visit by Me is Like
I received an email on my website from a woman who wanted me to contact her about a ghost. When I called her, she said
“I understand you’re a medium”
“That’s right.” I said.
“Well, I’ve got a ghost in my house and I’d like you to get rid of it for me if you can.”
“What has been happening?” I asked.
“I don’t quite know how to describe it. I haven’t actually seen anything. It’s just a feeling, as if I’m being watch all the time. It’s creepy. And there are odd smells and noises… could you come over and have a look?”
As she lived nearby in nearby, I agreed to call on her the following evening. It turned out that the house was an older house in an area of similar very old homes. I rang the bell. Mary, I shall call her, opened the door. She ushered me in into her living room. Although her manner was polite, it was obvious that she felt uncomfortable with me.
“I’ve never had anything to do with mediums or the like before” she confessed, a little hesitantly, “and don’t really believe in ghosts.”
(It amused me when people tell me they don’t believe in ghosts – while at the same time claiming that their house is haunted!)
“But there’s definitely something strange going around here.”
I asked a few questions and found out that she had moved into the house only a few months ago. Nothing really happened until about a month after she moved in. She started to experience an uneasy sensation as if someone was standing behind her. She had heard footsteps on the stairs and smelt cigar smoke and no one was ever allowed to smoke in her home. She tried to ignore these incidents but when the television turned on and off by itself, that was the last straw.
“I suppose you think I’m going mad?” she asked.
“Not at all.” I reassured her that the experiences she was having were very common.
“What is it, then? Is it an evil spirit?”
I told her not to be afraid. I couldn’t detect anything evil, only a poor, lost soul in need of help. My impression was that it was an man who lived in the home a long time ago. I explained this to her and added ”Could you give me a few minutes alone? I’d like to sit here by myself and talk to him.”
She looked puzzled. “Talk to him? Haven’t you brought any equipment?”
It was my turn to be puzzled. “What do you mean, ‘equipment’?”
“Well, I don’t know - the instruments to detect ghosts?”
She had been obviously been watching “Ghost Hunters” or some other similar television show. I told her I didn’t need any equipment. To ease her mind, I also told her that I didn’t use holy water or a crucifix either and that I wasn’t going to carry out an exorcism. I was just going to talk to the spirit and help him in his way to the spirit world.
“Is that all?” She looked at me anxiously as she lefted the room. “Are you sure you will be all right?”
“I will be find, your ghost isn’t going to hurt me.”
Left alone, I closed my eyes, my spirit helpers to show me where the earth-bound spirit was. I then focused my attention on the spirit. Although I couldn’t actually see him with my eyes, I could see him in my mind and he was in the corner of the living room. I could see him in my mind as being old and frail and leaning on a stick. He had white hair, was bald and had dark coloured clothing on. Sadness and depression emanated from him. I could feel it inside me. When I talked to him in my mind, he told me his name was Earnest Spencer. He told me that he of pneumonia in 1869. At one moment, he was in bed and the next, he was standing beside the bed looking at what looked like his lifeless body. He stayed around the house since that time for he simply didn’t know where else to go. I asked him if he saw any kind of bright light around him. He said that he did, but was afraid to go near it. I told him that the bright light is the entrance to a tunnel that will take him to the spirit world, where his family and friends would be. I sensed that he moved over to the bright light and peered into the tunnel. I asked him if he saw anyone at the end and he said he say his wife and mother and father. I told him to move into the tunnel and he would be carried there… which he did. After I sensed that he went in the tunnel, I asked for a sign that he had in fact gone to the other side, something I always do and most times I am surprised with the sign. I immediately saw his cane in my mind, which let me know he did not need it anymore.
I called Mary back in. “It’s all done.” I told her. “He’s gone.”
“Is that it, then?” She was skeptical, “As easy as that?”
“Yes, as easy as that.” I told her that most spirits are released with no trouble because they are glad to go, if someone shows them the way.
She looked nervously around the room, then went very quiet for the moment, sensing the atmosphere. “I must admit, it does feel different in here – lighter.”
“You won’t have any more problems.” I assured her. And I explained what had happened.
She listened, but obviously thought it was rather weird. “Well, I’m very greatful, but…”
“Yes?” I said.
”I rather wish now that I hadn’t asked you to get rid of him. It was exciting, having a ghost. I’m going to miss him.”
I told her that while it may have been ‘exciting’ having a ghost around, it was better for him to go to the spirit world and be with the people he loved than to feel hopeless and be trapped here. I told her that ‘ghosts’ normally interact with the living to get their attention, to try to get someone to hear them and to find someone who can help them move on to the “other side”. It is always best for an earth-bound spirit or ‘ghost’ to move on.
